Minnesota Department of Health COVID-19

We first want to say thank you for all of your messages and feedback on the Spring season.  When we started this league years ago we wanted to create a program based on suggestions and feedback from the community and a league families want to be a part of.  As a small business that relies so heavily on our community, your feedback and support are very important to our family.

After speaking with a good number of coaches and parents via phone and email, we have decided to indefinitely postpone the Spring season.  Due to the fluidity of the virus, an upward trend in cases, and the uncertainty of field availability within our local communities, we have deemed this to be the best course of action. Obviously, the safety of our players and families is of the most importance.  Although we realize a good number of you wanted to play, it is our social responsibility not to at this time.  We will all be back on the field before you know it and appreciate the game even more.

Out of your registration fees, the majority has been spent already on equipment, insurance, marketing, staff, background checks, and league fees, etc. as we started to work on our Spring season back in November.   As a community program, National Flag Football operates each location on very small margins of less than $7 per player and we can assure you we are not making a profit during this season and suffering major losses that can never be recouped.  However, we know the right thing to do is something versus nothing, which some youth sports leagues have chosen to do.  COVID-19 has caused all of us to adjust and accept unwarranted changes. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide a full credit or refund given how close we were to kicking off the season but are aware everyone has been effected differently so would like to offer the following options:

1.      Future Credit: (amount varies depending on your league location) credit good for a future season up to one year (per player).

2.      Refund: (amount varies depending on your league location) refund issued to the credit card used to register (per player).

3.      Donate Your Registration:  The donated funds will be used to offer scholarships for those in need and ensure the quality of the program you are used to is maintained into the future.   Many families have chosen to donate their registrations and we truly appreciate those who have offered this and thank all of you in advance!

Although we know some of you may not agree with the above options, we are trying our best to do the right thing by the majority, be fair, and accommodate your family during this unexpected pandemic.  We hope this small gesture, which is not as big as we’d like, illustrates our passion for football and not financial gain.  Please know we are not owned or operated by the NFL.  We are a small business dedicated to providing great youth sports programming to the communities we operate in.

If you chose a refund it will be processed but can take up to 6 - 8 weeks for the refund to show up on your credit card.  If the original credit card is no longer valid, we will have to issue a manual check and send to the address referenced in the billing section.  Please be advised we have to have all refund requests completed in a batch.  These responses will be reviewed weekly.  Again, we sincerely apologize we were not able to accommodate all requests and preferences and hope you continue to support us in the upcoming seasons.

We are working with a reduced number of staff to be financially responsible; we will answer inquiries if needed prior to making your decision.  We just ask for patience while we work through higher than normal volume of questions due to the circumstances.

From our family to yours, we hope you are staying healthy, safe, and happy.

Hello NFF Families,

After another three weeks, it appears our lives are still adjusting to these “stay-at-home” orders issued by state governors and elected officials across the nation and globe. With all the unknowns surrounding COVID-19, there are increased levels of stress, burdens, chaos, and emotions. As families, friends, and communities, it is essential that we keep communicating and displaying hope.

We are all frustrated, angry, scared, and disappointed in our spring pertaining to academics, school activities, family events, and sports. We are all fighting the same culprit: COVID-19.

Our spring season is sadly postponed until Sunday, June 14, 2020, when most schools in Minnesota would typically end. Governor Walz issued an Executive Order (20-20) “to stay at home” from March 27, until midnight on May 3, 2020. The health and safety of our flag football community is vital, and we will not compromise this for any reason. Therefore, we are postponing the season until the “stay-at-home” order is lifted by governments (both at state and national levels), and it is safe to play, build relationships, learn life skills, and establish a sense of normalcy again.

Unless the Governor amends or rescinds the current executive order dated March 25, here is the schedule:

·        Week One: June 14
·        Week Two: June 21
·        Week Three: June 28
·        Week Four: July 12
·        Week Five: July 19

**There will be one week with a doubleheader so all six games can be scheduled

We realize these are not the dates you signed up for, but none of us anticipated COVID-19 and its deadly wrath and destructive path. As we know it this year, all events and activities are shifting and adjusting; these are changing lives as we know it and even what we don’t know yet. Therefore, we want to give our young athletes hope to a great flag football season, even though things may be slightly different.

We together encompass safety, love for the game, desire to make friends, and instill life lessons. We can do this! So, let’s plan for the future, hope for the best, and get through these tough times in the moment!
See you on the field, and in the meantime, enjoy the jerseys and flag belts. If your young athlete has not received them yet, they are on their way.

National Flag Football Families,

We hope you and your family are doing well. We know these are crazy times, and we are sure you have a ton of questions; flag football is probably not in the top 100.  However, we just wanted to give you a heads up on where we stand at the moment.

While Governor Walz contemplates a possible Shelter In Place order, a state order issued last week has closed all Minnesota schools through this weekend. A plan to extend this order may be announced in the coming days. Following the CDC's guidelines and recommendations, we may need to postpone all leagues as necessary to a starting date that aligns with both the CDC, state and local municipalities. The good news is that we will not be canceling our leagues.

In the end, we are at the mercy of the school districts and parks and recreation departments of the communities that we operate in. Due to the fluidity of this situation, we will keep you updated with the latest developments.

At this point, credits for future seasons will not be given, for we are in a wait and see mode. On the bright side, your uniform and equipment has been received and packed. We are working with our carriers to see an effective solution to get you your gear so that you can begin practicing and playing at home.

Over the course of the next couple of weeks, we will send some emails in regards to practice drills you can work on with your athlete in preparation for the upcoming season.

We are a team. We are all in this together. Everybody can play their part. Please look out for your friends and neighbors as you protect your family.

Hello National Flag Football families,

National Flag Football is closely monitoring the outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, which was first reported in the Hubei province in China and has now spread to a growing number of countries, including the United States.  As always, our priority is the safety of our players, families, community, and staff.

This week, many communities are eliminating large gatherings of people, temporarily shutting down fields, and advising members to stay home.  In support of these initiatives, we have decided to take a moment to evaluate the current situation surrounding flag football.

This brief pause will allow us time to evaluate and process the current situation more thoroughly and to receive guidance from our community partners, local school districts, and elected government officials. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide you with frequent updates on the logistics of the upcoming season.  The Spring season is not cancelled; however, in the event it is necessary, it may be postponed.

In the meantime, The best way to prevent the spread of COVID-19 is the same as preventing the cold and flu, and include:

1.    Frequently wash your hands with soap and water.

2.    Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

3.    Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.

4.    Stay home when you are sick.

5.    Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.

6.    Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces with regular household cleaning spray or wipes.

7.    Follow the CDC's  (Center for Disease Control) recommendations for using a facemask.  The CDC does not recommend that people who are well wear a facemask to protect themselves from respiratory disease, including Coronavirus.  Facemasks should be used by people who show symptoms to help prevent the spread of the disease.

Due to the fluidity of this situation, please remain patient as we are making decisions related to individual leagues on a case by case situation.  We will rely highly on the local municipalities' guidance for many of these decisions and will apprise all future changes as soon as we are made aware of them.

We appreciate your participation in the league and will again be as transparent as possible while we work through this Coronavirus Pandemic.
